The present church built by William Exley in 1845 to a design by H Eglinton stands as a replacement for two previous churches dedicated to St Leonard, and is believed to be the fourth place of Christian worship on this site.  Bodley reredos at the high altar.  With a 90 foot tower and seating for about 500, it is the largest church in the area.
